Thomas H.
Private tutor in Syracuse, NY
Education
I received my Masters of Arts in Teaching (concentration in mathematics) in December 2012 from SUNY Cortland, and my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Psychology in May 2006 from SUNY Geneseo. I am currently a graduate student at Syracuse University. I will complete my degree requirements for a masters in Math this May.
Experience
I was the 2011/2012 graduate assistant for the math department at SUNY Cortland. My duties included 10 hours a week of tutoring any student (undergraduate or graduate) in need of assistance. Requests ranged from 100 level undergraduate courses to 600 level graduate courses. My quantitative score on the GRE general test was a 168, or 97th percentile (which roughly translates to an 800 on the old scale). One of the requirements for my masters in education was numerous hours of tutoring all levels of grade school (ranging from 6th to 12th grade). Additionally, having completed my student teaching this past semester (December 2012), I am up-to-date with most NYS regents exams, and what can be expected. Since January 2013, I have regularly taught courses at SUNY Cortland as an adjunct, including College Algebra, Math for Elementary Education Majors, Statistics, and Linear Algebra. During my tenure at SU, I have taught 18 sections of Statistics (MAT 121) recitations, and have taught 3 full sections of the same course. Additionally, I have been tutoring privately at both the high school and college level for the past 6 years.
